Unlike previous technologies, AI has a structure similar to the tragedy of the commons. The impressive pictures generated by AI are a result of its learning process, where it consumes a vast amount of art created by human creators. These AI-generated pictures are inexpensive. However, if the market becomes dominated by such pictures, there will be no training data sets for AI to rely on during its training. As a result, the progress in AI-generated pictures will halt, and disappointed consumers leave the market. In other words, excessive reliance on AI in the creation process will ultimately harm the market itself.
Currently, AI technology has not reached that level of dominance. While AI-generated pictures are available for sale on various websites, they do not hold a significant share in the market. In fact, consumers are growing tired of AI pictures due to their lack of originality. They only survive in specific niches where sexual content is valued.
However, in the future, AI pictures may potentially overshadow human-generated pictures in the market. After all, AI pictures are inexpensive. If consumers prioritize affordability over quality, the tragedy of the commons scenario could unfold.

なんだかんだで毎日つづいてるなあ。
AIの生み出すイラストはコモンズの悲劇を生み出すのではないか？ という思いつきで書いてみた。
AIによって数多のイラストレーターが失業し、AIイラストが市場を席巻する、という風になったら、そこでAIの進歩は止まってしまう。なぜなら、AIは人間が描いたイラストで学習するわけだから、人間が描かなくなったら学習のためのデータセットも無くなってしまう。そうなると、AIは同じようなイラストを延々と生産しつづけることになる。そんなことになったら消費者は呆れてみんなイラストに興味を無くし、「イラストを楽しむ」という文化自体が消滅し、同時に市場も滅びてしまうだろう。「人間がつくりだした大量のイラストのストック」をコモンズとみなすなら、コモンズが適切に管理されないことでコモンズが枯渇してしまうという意味で、これは完全にコモンズの悲劇になっていると思う。
ただ実際には、AIが飽きられたら人間の描いたイラストが売れるようになるはずだから、こんな風にはならないと思う。とはいえ、それでも「質よりも安さ」という嗜好の人はたくさんいるわけだから、AIイラストも完全に淘汰されることはない。そのあたりが最終的にどういうバランスで落ち着くかは、予言者でも経済学者でもないのでわかりません。
