I have been practicing to enhance my listening skills in English for nearly three months. The progress is not so rapid, but I actually feel that my efforts are yielding some results.
I sometimes get confused when I can't follow the plot of audiobooks. However, in general, I can grasp the main idea of the stories, without they are written in a perplexing style.
"Clara and the Sun" is easy to comprehend when listening, but I find the writing style somewhat peculiar since the narrator is an artificial intelligence. Although the narration in "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" is fast-paced, the writing style is straightforward, requiring minimal effort to understand the story. Of course, certain parts of the story remain incomprehensible, but with repeated challenges, I can fill in the gaps.

単に英語を聞き流すだけだとリスニング力は伸びない、というのはいろんなところで言われているし、わたしもそうだと感じている。TEDICTという、TEDを題材にディクテーションができるアプリでの練習を取り入れてみると、少し聞き取りやすくなった気がする。ディクテーションが効果的というのはあちこちで聞くけど、実際にやろうとするとものすごく面倒だ。その面倒を軽減してくれるアプリなのでとても重宝している。
ただ、わたしはTEDに出てくるような人たちの啓蒙的で意識高めの語りがあまり好きでないので、もうちょっとダウナーで貧乏くさい人たちの語りが聞きたいなあとも思っている。でも、英語を勉強する人たちは全体的に意識が高いので、教材も自然と意識高くなってしまうということなのだろうか。意識低い人にも英語を勉強する権利を。
